Hiver

When we were first approached by Hiver founder Hannah Rhodes, her passion for urban beekeeping had inspired her to create a premium, honey-infused beer. Driven by a desire to showcase the story of British urban beekeepers, Hannah crafted a beverage that allowed the distinctive flavour of raw, local honey to shine without overpowering the beer itself. This resulted in a balanced, refreshing brew that harmoniously blended the rich sweetness of honey with the crisp, clean taste of beer. Hiver is more than just a drink—it’s a celebration of quality craftsmanship, which would be an important cue for the brand identity we would set out to create.

Our role was to name the product, develop the brand story, and create its identity, which is centred around a hand drawn, bespoke wordmark. When we created the Hiver brand their independence separated them from mass-produced honey beers and pointed at a more bohemian personality. We believed their passion and attention to detail could also be leveraged emotionally and the concept of ‘passionate independence’ spawned a brand built on those principles, from using 100% British ingredients and suppliers to supporting pollinator charities with 10% of profits. Hiver do things their own way. And appeal to consumers who passionately follow that same mantra.

Supporting collateral for Hiver included plantable business cards that grow wildflowers while packaging is designed to feel premium, echoing the quality of other hand finished identity elements. Since its launch the brand has gained significant traction. Hiver is now stocked at prestigious locations such as Selfridges, the Tate Modern members’ bar, and Heston Blumenthal’s Hinds Head in Bray, even outselling Peroni at the Dorchester Hotel. Founder Hannah Rhodes was featured in The Sunday Times ‘35 Under 35’ as a businesswoman to watch, while the brand’s story has been highlighted on BBC Radio Four and ITV’s This Morning. Hiver also won the inaugural Ocado Top Supplier award.
